The cafeteria was only recently converted from a gym. The last remnant beyond a padded floor is the far wall which is still covered in mirrors and graffiti. There's at least a hundred people crammed in for breakfast, sitting at plastic picnic tables, served by Marcus and the other guards.
Jabber and Amstrad are sitting at an otherwise empty table, while Sam and Kiki sit alone elsewhere in the building. Catch didn’t show up for breakfast.
Amstrad thinks back to his entrance here. He looks around at all the people. Mothers and fathers and teenagers who are supposed to be in school. A banker and a groundskeeper. Each eating out of cardboard trays like high school again. Jabber tells Amstrad that the jawbreakers arrested twenty tenants who left the building. Gave them bogus charges. Now they try to keep everyone inside as best they can.
"Hey, Jabber. Are we these people's last line of defense?" Amstrad asks.
   "Yep."
   "Have you fought Jawbreakers before?"
Jabber gives a sardonic smile. "No. Have you?"
   "A little."
Jabber pokes his plastic fork around his mac and cheese "I'm more scared of a District Manager showing up than a hundred Jawbreakers. Two hundred. They're monsters, I hear- not even human."
"They're not gonna send us a District Manager."
   "You don't think so?"
Amstrad shakes his head. "They wouldn't. It'd be impossible to get one even if they wanted to, they're too busy."
   Jabber shrugs.
Amstrad looks out the door to the cafeteria, down the long hallway, into the lobby. The guards are watching the door. "Jabber,"
   "Hm?"
"We don't know what we're doing."
Jabber scoffs. "Sure we do. Just, like, individually."
"The security isn't tight enough. We need more precautions. These people need to know how to fight someone in ballistic armor. The jawbreaker’s have got more organization than us. More everything."
   "Then do something about it."
   "Me?"
"Yeah you. Mister fuckin' uhh 'let's change everything'. Change something."
Amstrad shrugs. "I don't know how."
   "Talk about it."
   "That's what I'm doing."
"Not to me, stupid. To everyone else."
Amstrad considers the paycheck. "Too much work."
Jabber raises his fork. "You said it. You said it."
